Rachael's father died in 1832, just before the birth of her brother Michel, leaving her mother to raise the family alone.

Barbara Mosser, who was born 23 Mar 1838 in Schirrhein, ended up in the Kenton County, Kentucky, area and married Joseph F. Knoll. She had at least six children and died 8 Oct 1877 in Covington. She is buried in Linden Grove Cemetery.

In the 1860 Census, the family is living in Kenton County, Kentucky, in an area serviced by the Morning View Post Office. Living with them is Michael Holder [Halter], age 27, listed as a Farm Laborer. This is Rachael's brother.
Joseph and Rachael had another daughter, Rose Margaret Morand, born 12 Apr 1862.
Twins Terese and Regina "Rachel" were born 25 Jan 1863. Sadly, Terese did not survive and died the day she was born.
