Richard Harry Evans, born 23 Mar 1875 in Peniel, Gallia County, Ohio, was the son of Richard David and Elizabeth Alban Evans. He typically went by the name Harry.
The 1880 Census shows Harry at age 5 living with his family in Greenfield Township, Gallia County, Ohio. In 1896, he married Emma Louellen Souders and they had three children: -Erfee Evans Ervin (1896-1986) -Ruth Evans Davis (1898-1974) -Cecil Theodore Evans - profiled on his own page The 1900 Census shows Harry at age 25 living in Greenfield Township, Gallia County, Ohio, working as a Farmer. One of Emma's younger brothers, Floyd, is shown living with them. The Shelton families enumerated on the same page are all cousins of one degree or another. Emma's mother's maiden name was Rosetta Ann Shelton prior to marrying Amos Souders. The 1910 Census shows him at age 35 living with his family on Byers Road in Wellston, Jackson County, Ohio, working as a Bridge Carpenter for the Railroad. Further down the page is David T. (Theodore) Souders, an older brother of Emma's. In 1918, Harry registered for the World War I Draft. He is described as tall with a medium build, brown hair and blue eyes.
The 1920 Census shows him at age 44 living with his family at 603 Broadway Street in Wellston, Jackson County, Ohio. Emma’s brother, Amos, and his family live in the household enumerated just before theirs. Harry works as a Carpenter for a Railroad Bridge Gang. Emma died in 1926, and Harry married Bessie Lea (maiden name uknown), widow of John J. Robinson. The 1930 Census shows Harry living with his new wife, Bessie, and her sons, at age 55 living in Wellston, Jackson County, Ohio. He lists his work as a Bridge Foreman for the Steam Railroad. Harry died 11 Feb 1935 of a coronary thrombosis and chronic myocarditis in Austin, Ross County, Ohio. He was buried 13 Feb 1935 in Greenlawn Cemetery in Frankfort, Ross County, Ohio. Bessie died the same year and is buried there, as well, beside her first husband. |
