16.  John F. Roth (1871-1911) Age 39
17.  Louise "Lulie" Beierle (1872-1947) Age 75

John F. Roth was born 17 Nov 1871 in Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky, to parents Gottfried and Kate (Hermann) Roth.

The 1880 Census shows John at age 9 living with his family in Covington.

John married Louise "Lulie" Beierle 5 Jun 1894 at Saint Aloysius Church in Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky.  They became parents to three children:
-Robert John Roth, profiled on his own page
-Luella Catherine Roth (1901-1998)
-John Fideli Roth (1906-1988)

The 1900 Census shows John at age 29 living with his family at 46 Fry Street in Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky. He works as a Cornice Cutter.

1910 Census shows him at age 38 living with his family at 324 W. Twelfth Street in Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky. He reports that he works as a Tinner.

Tragically, John's life was cut short by a horrible accident that left Lulie with three children to raise on her own.

COVINGTON MAN CRUSHED UNDER WHEELS OF TRAIN
The mangled body of John Roth, well-known Covingtonian, was found at a late hour last night [29 Mar 1911] lying beside the tracks in the C. & O. yards at Twelfth and Washington-sts., Covington. C. & O. Yardmaster Curran discovered the mutilated remains. Life was extinct. The body was taken at once to Swetham´s morgue.

Roth lived with his family at 270 West Twelfth-st., and it is believed that he was coming through the yards on his way home when the shunting trains confused him and he stepped out of the path of one to meet death under a train going in the opposite direction. None of the employees of the railroad knew that a man had been struck.

The body had been run over in the center. The trunk and legs were literally ground to pieces. The arms and head had not been touched by the wheels and identification was easy.

Roth was 30 years old and was well known in Covington. He was foreman in a tin shop at Eleventh and Madison-av. One brother is President of the Covington Turners and another is a well known blacksmith on Eight-st. near Madison. A wife and three children survive.

The body was removed this morning to the undertaking establishment of Allison & Yates. The funeral probably will be held from the residence Saturday afternoon. Coroner Wise is making an investigation and is withholding his verdict at the present time.

RATH [ROTH] FUNERAL

My thanks to Luella Catherine Roth for providing The Bechtold - Beierle - Roth Family Summary which she compiled 16 Jan 1989:

"John Roth was born in Covington, Kentucky on December 10, 1871. He was a metal worker and worked for Rasch's who were located on Madison Avenue, across from the Cathedral. He did all the fancy roofing of the Cathedral. Coming home from work he was hit by a train at the 12th Street crossing in Covington, Kentucky on March 29, 1911, age 39 years. He left three children, Robert, Luella and John.

He had four brothers, George, Louis and Fred, one half brother Willie and a half sister, Kate.

His mother died when they were children. His father remarried.

He was a member of the Covington Turner Society. As was the custom of this organization, a band of music accompanied the funeral possession to the then known, Big Bend, in Covington. He was buried from his home on West 12th St., Covington, Ky. and was buried in Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, Ky."
