12.  John Bert Dugan (1910-1987) Age 77
13.  Agnes Evelyn Sundin (1912-2008) Age 96

John Bert Dugan was born 11 Feb 1910 (or 1911) in Olive Hill, Carter County, Kentucky.  He is the son of John Ambors Bocook and Mahala "Hallie" Henderson.  John and Hallie were never married.  In the 1910 Census taken 29 Apr 1910, Hallie is working as a servant in the home of Morton W. Clark, three households away from John Bocook's family.

Although John Dugan's birth is listed as 1910, he is not found with his mother, Hallie, in the 1910 Census.  His birth may have been in 1911.

While the close proximity of the residences of John Bocook and Mahala Henderson in 1910 is not conclusive evidence that John Bocook is his father, John Bert Dugan told family members that his father was, in fact, John Bocook.  A photo of John Bocook was provided by Aggie Dugan along with confirmation that John B. Dugan had known John Bocook and that he was his father and that he had visited him in Portsmouth.

In the 1920 Census, John Dugan is enumerated as Johnny Stapleton at age 8 with his mother, Hala (Mahala) Stapleton, her husband Thomas Stapleton, and his son, William Stapleton.  Notice that William and Hattie (Jordan) Stone are in the next household.  William is Mahala's half brother, a son of Charles H. Stone and Mary E. Eulett.

The 1930 Census shows John Dugan at age 19 living at Main Street in Glen Rogers, Wyoming County, West Virginia, working as a Miner in a Coal Mine.  He is enumerated with his mother Mahala Dugan, her husband Mike and their kids.

John married Agnes Evelyn Sundin 27 Jun 1931 in Wyoming County, West Virginia.

John and Aggie had four sons:
-Eugene Karl "Buddy" Dugan (1932-2010)
-Richard Earl "Dick" Dugan
-Patrick Dale "Pat" Dugan
-Thomas Michael " Tom" Dugan

The 1940 Census shows John and his family living in Glen Rogers, Wyoming County, West Virgina.  He is enumerated as Johnnie B. and is working as a Laborer in a Coal Mine.  Agnes is listed as his wife, along with sons Eugene K., Richard E., and Patrick D.

John and his family moved to Belle, Kanawha County, West Virginia.  They lived at 1616 W. Riverview Drive for many years.  The house no longer stands; it was razed for planned expansion of a nearby company.

While living in Belle, John worked as a pipefitter for Union Carbide, retiring from there after 25 years.  He and Aggie moved to Ohio to be closer to some of their kids, who were living there and starting families of their own.  For a number of years, they lived in Milford on Queenie Lane.  John took a job working for Loveland City Schools as a Transportation Supervisor.  After retiring from that position, he and Aggie moved to Georgetown in Brown County, Ohio, to be closer to her sister, Marie, and Marie's husband, Bill Sexton.

John died 22 Apr 1987 in Brown County General Hospital in Georgetown, Brown County, Ohio.  He had fallen on the ice in his driveway while out getting the mail one day and never fully recovered from his injuries and the debilitation that followed.  He is buried in Confidence Cemetery in Georgetown.

Autosomal and Y-DNA Testing

DNA testing on two sons of John Dugan show absolutely no connection to anyone with a Bocook surname.  The difficulty in determining his paternal line is compounded by the fact that we have no proof that John Ambors Bocook is the father of John Dugan and if he is the father, we still have no idea who his father was.

Y-DNA shows matches with the suname Pruitt (3), Morton (5), and Chisholm (19).  Although there are more Chisholm matches, they are from further back in time.  Research is ongoing to find the connection(s) to Pruitt and Morton, and both subjects tested from our family have been added to the Pruitt DNA Project on Family Tree DNA.

Autosomal matches show numerous connections to the Henderson, Eulett, Gilbert, Perry, Miller, and Tabor families, as well as the Bryant, Blevins, and Tackett families.
